India recorded strong growth in renewable power generation in July 2026, with solar generation increasing nearly 49% year-on-year and wind generation also registering a rise, according to data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Solar power generation reached 18,082 MU in July 2026, compared with 12,101 MU in July 2025, marking a 49.43% increase. Solar accounted for around 9.91% of India’s total electricity generation during the month.
Wind Generation Rises 5.3%
Wind power generation increased to 18,505 MU in July 2026 from 17,573 MU a year earlier, registering a 5.30% year-on-year growth. Wind contributed around 10.14% of India’s total electricity generation during July.
Together, solar and wind generated approximately 36,587 MU during the month, highlighting their growing contribution to India’s electricity supply.
Renewable Generation Up During April-July
Solar generation during April-July 2026 reached 80,734 MU, compared with 55,145 MU during the same period last year, representing a 46.66% increase.
Wind generation during the four-month period stood at 52,068 MU, up from 49,451 MU, registering growth of around 5.29%.
Overall renewable energy generation reached 194,065 MU during April-July 2026, compared with 174,272 MU in the year-ago period. Renewables accounted for around 27.50% of India’s total electricity generation during the period.
The latest figures highlight the rapidly increasing role of solar power in India’s electricity mix, while wind continues to provide a significant share of renewable generation.
