Tamil Nadu Solar Subsidy

Tamil Nadu Solar Subsidy

Tamil Nadu, one of India’s top renewable energy leaders, continues to promote solar adoption through attractive subsidies for residential rooftop systems. With high solar irradiation and rising electricity demand, the Tamil Nadu Solar Subsidy program makes clean energy more accessible and cost-effective for households.

Subsidy Details:

Tamil Nadu follows the national subsidy structure under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, along with state-level support through TEDA (Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency):

• Up to 3 kW:

◦ ₹30,000 per kW (first 2 kW)
◦ ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW
◦ Maximum ₹78,000 subsidy

• Above 3 kW (up to 10 kW):

◦ Fixed subsidy remains ₹78,000

• Group housing/Apartment complexes:

◦ ₹18,000 per kW (up to 500 kW shared capacity)

The subsidy applies only to MNRE-approved vendors and grid-connected rooftop systems.

System Cost After Subsidy:

A typical 3 kW system in Tamil Nadu costs between ₹1.8 – ₹2.2 lakh.

After receiving the ₹78,000 subsidy, the price drops to ₹1.1– 1.4 lakh.

With strong solar irradiation, most households recover their investment within 4–5 years, followed by decades of free electricity.

Conclusion:

The Tamil Nadu Solar Subsidy significantly lowers the upfront cost of switching to solar. With reliable power generation, strong sunlight, and easy online application, rooftop solar has become one of the smartest energy investments for Tamil Nadu residents. The subsidy not only reduces installation cost but also ensures long-term savings and energy independence — making clean energy accessible to every home in the state.
