Alpex Solar is focusing on deeper solar manufacturing integration while holding off on an immediate equity fund-raise. The company also expects to begin the process of migrating from the NSE Emerge platform to the main board after February 2027.
Alpex Solar Limited has indicated that it currently has no plans for another equity issue, as the company prepares for its next phase of expansion in India’s solar manufacturing sector.
During its Q1 FY27 investor interaction, the company said future expansion would initially be supported through a limited amount of debt. Management indicated that a larger fund-raise could be considered once there is greater visibility on the performance and cash generation of its solar cell manufacturing operations.
The company is following a funding approach similar to that adopted for its 2.2 GW solar cell manufacturing facility, while seeking to keep its debt exposure under control.
Mainboard Migration Planned
Alpex Solar has also reiterated its intention to move from the NSE Emerge SME platform to the main board.
According to management, the company expects to become eligible to submit its migration documents after February 15, 2027, with the filing targeted around that date. The approval process could then take a few months.
The planned transition comes as Alpex expands beyond conventional module manufacturing and moves toward greater vertical integration across the solar value chain.
Focus Shifts Beyond Solar Modules
The company believes India’s rapidly expanding module manufacturing capacity could lead to increasing competition and consolidation in the sector.
With domestic manufacturing requirements increasingly extending toward solar cells and upstream components, Alpex expects manufacturers with only module production capabilities to face greater pressure.
The company is therefore focusing on developing an integrated manufacturing platform covering solar modules, cells, wafers and ingots.
Alpex currently has 3.6 GW of module manufacturing capacity and a 2.2 GW solar cell line, according to its official website.
2.5 GW Wafer and Ingot Expansion
As part of its upstream expansion strategy, Alpex has begun preparations for a 2.5 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing facility.
The company has said that work on the facility is progressing, including building preparation and technology and equipment selection. The expansion is intended to strengthen domestic sourcing and provide greater control over the company’s solar manufacturing supply chain.
Alpex has previously outlined longer-term plans for solar glass as well as ingot and wafer manufacturing, with the objective of building a more vertically integrated renewable energy business.
Solar Cell Production Remains a Key Milestone
The company’s immediate priority is the commissioning of its 2.2 GW G12R TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility. Alpex had announced in May 2026 that the facility was expected to begin production within 90 days.
Most of the cells produced are expected to support Alpex’s own module manufacturing requirements, helping the company reduce dependence on external cell suppliers.
Strengthening India’s Domestic Solar Manufacturing
Alpex’s strategy reflects the broader shift in India’s solar industry toward domestic manufacturing and greater supply-chain integration.
By expanding from modules into cells and eventually wafers and ingots, the company aims to strengthen its position across the solar manufacturing value chain while reducing exposure to external component supply.
Overall, Alpex Solar’s decision to defer an immediate equity raise while pursuing cell, wafer and ingot manufacturing highlights its focus on controlled expansion and deeper integration as India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem continues to develop.
