The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has temporarily deactivated 66 registered vendors under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for one month after identifying a large backlog of pending rooftop solar applications.
The action followed an analysis of portal data for the April–June 2026 quarter. MNRE found that several vendors had accumulated unusually high numbers of applications marked as “Agreement Uploaded”, despite having limited installation capacity. The ministry termed this practice “artificial hoarding”, stating that it can restrict consumer choice, delay installations and slow the release of subsidies.
During the one-month deactivation period, the affected vendors will not be allowed to accept new consumer applications. Their names have also been temporarily removed from the vendor-selection section of the PM Surya Ghar portal. However, they can continue accessing the portal to complete installations for consumers with whom agreements have already been signed.
MNRE has given the vendors 30 days to reduce their pending applications and improve installation timelines. Vendors showing adequate progress may be reactivated after the review. Those failing to address the backlog could face an extension of the deactivation period.
The ministry has also advised all registered vendors to avoid keeping consumer applications pending for more than 60 days without a valid reason. Vendors have been instructed to accept new applications according to their actual installation and execution capacity.
The move comes as the PM Surya Ghar scheme approaches its scheduled conclusion, with less than nine months remaining. MNRE said the action is intended to improve project execution, reduce consumer delays, accelerate rooftop solar installations and ensure faster delivery of government subsidies.
The measure highlights the government’s focus on improving vendor performance and ensuring that the rapid expansion of residential rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar scheme translates into timely installations for consumers.
