Swaraj Tractors, part of the Mahindra Group, has partnered with Mahindra Susten to increase the use of renewable energy across its manufacturing operations in Punjab.
Mahindra Susten has commissioned a 42 MWp group-captive solar project in Bathinda, which will supply renewable electricity to Swaraj Tractors’ manufacturing, assembly and foundry facilities in Mohali. The project is expected to meet around 50% of the company’s electricity requirements.
The two companies have entered into a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) under which Swaraj Tractors will procure solar power from the project at competitive rates. The arrangement is expected to help the manufacturer reduce both its electricity procurement costs and carbon emissions.
42 MWp Bathinda Solar Project
The solar plant is located in Village Teona Pujarian, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, Punjab, and covers approximately 141 acres. It uses N-Type TOPCon bifacial solar modules installed on fixed-tilt structures.
The project is expected to generate around 61.54 million units of renewable electricity annually and help offset more than 42,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
More than 97% of the project’s components are sourced from India, supporting domestic renewable-energy manufacturing. The plant will also use semi-automated robotic systems for module cleaning, which is expected to save around 1.92 million litres of water annually.
The remaining capacity from the project is planned to support the renewable electricity requirements of other Mahindra Group entities operating in Punjab.
The partnership represents Mahindra Susten’s expansion into supplying renewable power to commercial and industrial customers through the group-captive model, while supporting Swaraj Tractors’ broader efforts to reduce dependence on conventional electricity and increase renewable-energy consumption.
