WeWork India Management Limited plans to develop a 10 MWp ground-mounted solar power project in Karnataka as part of its transition toward using 100% renewable electricity by March 2028.
The solar plant is targeted for commissioning in FY27 and is expected to generate approximately 15–16 million units of clean electricity annually. Around 80% of the project’s generation is expected to support WeWork India’s operations, including its Bengaluru centres.
Solar Project to Support Bengaluru Operations
Bengaluru is WeWork India’s largest market, with 30 operational centres, while Karnataka accounts for around 30% of the company’s total electricity consumption.
Once operational, the solar project is expected to increase the share of renewable electricity across WeWork India’s portfolio from around 40% to approximately 50%, moving the company closer to its long-term renewable-energy target.
The project will have an expected 25-year design life, providing greater long-term visibility over electricity costs and helping reduce exposure to fluctuations in conventional grid tariffs.
Combining Captive Solar and Open Access
WeWork India plans to combine owned renewable generation, captive consumption and open-access power procurement to create a more diversified energy-sourcing model.
The company said the investment will help reduce the carbon footprint of its operations while providing greater certainty over energy costs.
The 10 MWp project marks WeWork India’s move beyond simply procuring renewable electricity toward direct investment in renewable power generation, supporting the company’s broader sustainability strategy.
