Rajasthan Makes Tree Plantation Mandatory for Renewable Energy Projects

The Rajasthan government has introduced an environmental measure requiring renewable energy project developers to undertake tree plantation activities as part of project implementation. The move is aimed at ensuring that the rapid development of solar, wind, and other renewable energy infrastructure is accompanied by measures to protect and restore the environment.

Rajasthan has become one of India’s major renewable energy hubs, with extensive solar parks and growing wind power capacity. As large projects require significant areas of land, environmental management and sustainable land use have become increasingly important. The new requirement seeks to balance the state’s clean-energy expansion with ecological conservation.

Stronger environmental practices could also improve the sustainability credentials of projects and appeal to investors and lenders with environmental criteria.
